Name: Destin Ambrosius
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Role: Islander
Powers: His power is a different one, it is an evolving gift which becomes more powerful and flexible the more he uses it. At first it was merely an immunity to all gifts of others, something he still retains, but he eventually became able to suppress a person's gift, it's return depending on how long he could concentrate. As he grew older it became easier and now he doesn't suppress the gift, he strips it away and unless he particularly bothers to return it they will remain giftless. This has lead him to be able to tell if someone is gifted or not, how powerful their gift is, and what it can do and it's limits are. It continues to evolve and become more powerful, his gift over powers, his power over gifts.
Appearance:
Personality: Destin has the traits of a leader, he exudes self confidence and calm control in a way that makes you want to listen to him since he seems so in control. He is very clever and intelligent, his quick wits making up for what any might see as a lack in his gift not being something flashy or easily put to use. He is able to inspire people, whether it is to inspire courage and confidence or to inspire fear if it is his choice since he is apt at both. After all he spent his life learning from his father and grandfather, both Headmasters. There is little doubt to most people, especially as they hear him speak, that he will be the next Headmaster continuing a long family tradition.
In private though Destin considers them all nothing more than pieces on his chess board. He knows how to play the game but finds nothing to play for or with. His family position is stable and even if he puts forward no additional effort will likely become Headmaster when his father dies or abdicates. The Forsaken are not great enough threat that he need worry about them, the Seekers and Hilram take care of them efficiently. No he has nothing to do but play with pesky children so caught up in their own lives that they can't see the bigger picture. They fuss and squabble as immature children are wont to do and for now he remains with them and occasionally takes part in their petty squabbles. Islander, newcomer, whoever they are they are the same to him. He even keeps himself popular with both. The islanders respect and fear him and his ability to take away the thing they hold dearest. The newcomers see him as a sane and fair islander unlike the others and are willing to pour their complaints and troubles out to him. All the while behind his mask of composure he laughs at both of them and the silly issues they find so consuming.
History: He's an interesting one. Son of the Headmaster he is a direct descendant of Merlin and unlike all the other families his has never had a non-gifted be born to the direct line. It is a continuous line of strong power and political power. Very few times has the Headmaster not been a member of his family. So when he showed no sign of any gift and those who were able to sense such things sensed nothing from him it was a shock and a horror for the family. They probably would have disowned him if he had not cut himself one day. The healer tried to attend him but found he couldn't. So clinging to this hope his mother had many people try to use their powers on him, they all failed. Even when fire was flung at him it did not harm him in the slightest and the more physical things, like projectiles thrown by telekinesis just stopped in front of him as the telekinesis broke. He was untouchable to any with the gift thus proving himself worthy of his family line.
From there things went as they should have, to a degree. Some tried to tease him because his gift seemed so weak. It was not long that they found his gift gave him a huge advantage over those who depended on their gifts for so much. As his powers evolved he was able to even 'punish' them by making them live like non-gifted for a time, a time which as he got older got longer. Because of this and his family he naturally became something of a leader for the more traditional islanders, those with long histories of being on the island. This group had different parts to it including Rashal's gang of tormentors. Rashal has a love hate relationship with Destin since Destin was the one who shook his ability to control everyone yet he can't help but respect him.
